Quality Control
Dehydrated Appearance:
Cream to light yellow coloured, homogeneous, free-flowing powder.
Prepared Appearance:
- Without blood: Light amber coloured, clear to slightly opalescent gel.
- With blood: Red coloured, opaque gel (blood agar).
Cultural Response:
After incubation at 35–37°C for 18–24 hours:
- Supports growth of a wide range of organisms.
- With blood: allows observation of hemolytic reactions (α, β, γ hemolysis).
